This is the former residence of fisherman Oscar Montaño Herrera. Known as Don Yoka, he was a pioneer of Los Cabos’ coastal fisheries.
More than a quarter century ago, Don Juan Esquivel built one of the first hotels on Medano Beach on the site that originally belonged to Don Yoka. As owner of the fishing fleet “Gaviotas” (“Seagulls” in English), the entrepreneurial Don Juan saw an opportunity to create a haven for fishermen. Those who joined the fleet for three days or more could enjoy a complimentary stay at the hotel, courtesy of Don Juan.
In 2007, a group of investors from New York acquired the property, as well as the adjacent land and a beach club on Medano Beach. As a first step, the group developed what is now known as the Bahia Hotel & Beach Club under the careful supervision of director Felipe Rebelo. What began as a humble fishing shelter has become an urban-chic hotel with a hip, renowned restaurant—Bar Esquina—that attracts locals and travelers from across the world.
The Bahia Hotel & Beach House provides personalized, city-style accommodations with views of the Sea of Cortez and is located within walking distance of the best swimming beach in Cabo San Lucas.
Bar Esquina restaurant, located inside of the hotel, offers a robust menu of international cuisine with an amazing blend of Mexican and Mediterranean flavors. The dishes and cocktails are prepared with locally sourced, organic ingredients. Bar Esquina is quickly gaining recognition as one of the best restaurants in Cabo San Lucas. You can enjoy its friendly ambience and innovative style while dining at the spacious marble bar, on the 70-person terrace, or at the chef’s table, taking in views of the beautiful exhibition kitchen.
The renovated hotel pays homage to the region and the history of its building. It has started a new trend in Los Cabos hotels, blending a modern design with its signature warmth. This place has a very special energy.
