Bahia Hotel is the former residence of fisherman Oscar Montaño Herrera. Known as Don Yoka, he was a pioneer of Los Cabos’ coastal fisheries.
More than a quarter century ago, Don Juan Esquivel built one of the first hotels on Medano Beach on the site that originally belonged to Don Yoka. As owner of the Gaviotas fishing fleet (“Seagulls” in English), the entrepreneurial Don Juan saw an opportunity to create a haven for fishermen. Those who joined the fleet for three days or more could enjoy a complimentary stay at the hotel, courtesy of Don Juan.
In 2007, Lee and Meredith Vosburgh along with a group of friends from New York acquired the hotel and adjacent land. By 2010, they had repositioned the hotel into Cabo’s first urban boutique hotel and launched Bar Esquina. Under the professional supervision of Felipe Rebelo (MD), the Bahia Hotel and Bar Esquina quickly became a fixture in the Los Cabos social scene.
In the 2016, the team repositioned Las Palmas, one of Los Cabos’ iconic properties, and created the SUR Beach House.
The restoration of these iconic buildings has created soulful experiences for our guests. It allows one to enjoy modern-day conveniences and appreciate the old Baja.
